Buying Rolling Papers in Bulk in Pakistan: A Shopkeeper's Checklist

If you run a general store, a paan shop, a cafe or a smoke accessories counter anywhere in Pakistan, rolling papers are a low-shelf-space, high-turnover line. But buying them in bulk from the wrong supplier is how shopkeepers end up with stock that sits, tears, or burns badly enough that customers don't come back.

Here's what to check before you place a bulk order.

1. Confirm the paper size before anything else

King size slim (roughly 107 × 44 mm) is the size most customers in Pakistan ask for. Shorter 1¼ sizes sell too, but slower. If a supplier won't tell you the exact millimetre dimensions, that's a signal — it usually means they're reselling unbranded stock and don't know themselves.

2. Ask how many leaves and tips are in each pack

This is the number your customers compare, and it's the number that decides your real margin. A pack with 32 leaves and 32 tips is a different product from one with 32 leaves and no tips, even if the price looks similar. Get it in writing before you order.

3. Work out your per-piece cost, not the box price

Suppliers quote box prices because they're bigger numbers that hide the per-unit maths. Divide it out. A box of 12 at Rs 21,600 is Rs 1,800 per piece. Three boxes at Rs 60,000 is Rs 1,667 per piece. That difference of Rs 133 per unit is your margin, and it only shows up when you do the division.

4. Check the burn quality yourself before committing

Order a single piece first. Light one. A good paper burns slowly and evenly without running down one side. Papers that burn fast or unevenly generate complaints, and complaints in a small shop travel faster than advertising. No serious supplier will refuse a sample order.

5. Ask about restock lead time

The cheapest supplier is worthless if they take six weeks to restock and your shelf sits empty. Ask directly: what is your lead time, and what is your minimum reorder? A supplier who imports containers can usually answer immediately. One who can't is buying from someone else and marking it up.

6. Confirm who pays for delivery

On bulk orders this matters more than shopkeepers expect. Nationwide freight on a multi-box order can quietly remove a chunk of your margin. Get it settled before you agree a price.

7. Check the packaging holds up

Papers crushed in transit are papers you can't sell. Ask how bulk orders are packed. If the answer is vague, assume the worst and order a small quantity first.
